Handcrafted Dreamcatcher for Someone Special

Very recently I had someone special to create a gift for and it really got me thinking… it had to be something suitable for posting to Australia but I also wanted it to be something with a personal touch, so I went looking for ideas.

I decided that a laser cut mdf dreamcatcher was perfect for a new baby’s room, particularly one with the quote “Never Let Go Of Your Dreams” with feathers, stars, moon and a cloud.

I ordered this dreamcatcher from our supplier and could not wait for it to arrive so that I could start working on it… I had already decided which colours of Dylusions paint I was going to use. The morning it arrived I was straight on with the first layer of paint.

The dreamcatcher outer circle was painted using Calypso Teal, the writing was painted alternately in After Midnight and Tangerine Dream before each of the star, feather, moon and cloud elements were given a coat of gesso before being finished with glitter Stickles.

Each of the elements of the dreamcatcher have been connected using blue and white twine to add to the free flowing effect that a lighter ribbon/twine gives.

A few people asked me who I was working on this gift for but I was very secretive about who the recipient would be, but now they have received it and vlogged the parcel they received (showing both the dreamcatcher AND the handmade card we made from Cards And Candles For All Occasions), I can now confirm that this was a very special gift for a very special little boy…

The beautiful baby boy being Archie, gorgeous son of the very talented Adele and Aaron Toomey aka Inkie Quill and Inkie Beard!!

Those of you who know me and/or follow my other blog (Eljay’s Creating Memories Journey) will know that I also love scrapbooking and following many wonderful YouTubers in the scrapbook community, so when Adele shared Archie’s gift on their daily vlog on Mr & Mrs Rad, together with a few crafty things I had sent to Adele, naming me and thanking me for being a longterm fan and subscriber, I have to admit that I did have a bit of a fan girl moment 😍😍😍 lol. I just *had* to screenshot the moment, so here you go… I doubt Adele realises that she made my day this morning!!

Here is the vlog post where you can find Adele sharing her happy mail… “Mr & Mrs RAD Ep #139 ~ You Can’t Bite Daddy’s Nose Archie!”.

I would love to hear your thoughts on my latest Dreamcatcher and if you are interested in seeing more of my work you can follow us on Facebook at Cards And Candles For All Occasions.

Thank you for reading.

My Latest Work – 21.06.2016

Good morning all, I hope everyone is well.

First let me apologise for being awol over the last few weeks, I know my blog is looking rather neglected – this has not been deliberate, I have been having a difficult time with my health and once I finish working on customer orders I don’t seem to have any energy left for anything else.

So far this week has started a little better, so let’s hope it continues this way!!

Recently we have been receiving a lot of customer orders for our handcrafted exploding box keepsake gifts, these are so versatile as they have so many areas for decoration so can include many more elements than a standard greeting card. They are perfect for any occasion.

The most recent handcrafted exploding box keepsake gifts we have completed are here below…

The first one is for a wedding – this one is personalised with a message to the bride and groom and includes names of all their bridesmaids, as well as photographs of the wedding venue, their colour scheme and a crystal swan centrepiece.

pizap.com14664465205711

The second one is for a very special lady who lives in France so I was asked to make this very “Paris-themed” and the centre-piece is a model of the Eiffel Tower, the elements around the sides are all things relating to France and that are important to the lady’s life.

I hope you like out latest handcrafted keepsake designs and would love to hear your comments 🙂

Exciting #HugsForNoah News!!!

HugsForNoahLogo

Anyone who follows our blog will know that we are huge supporters of #HugsForNoah… our friends little boy who was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

Noah with Miss Daisy

The family had their home renovated by DIYSOS a couple of years ago and the episode was first shown on BBC1 in August 2014:

#HugsForNoah BBC DIYSOS 28082014

I have just read the most amazing news on Noah’s mummy’s Facebook page this morning:

Shellybobbins:
“BBC1 31st March at 9pm Noah’s ‪#‎DIYSOS‬ Big Build WILL be on YAY

Amazing to be on BBC1 again they rang hubby a few weeks ago to ask and we said yes !!!!!!!! For us it’s about awareness

If your thinking of having a baby then please take folic acid B9 & B12 3 months before conception

If you already have neural tube defects in your family then you need a higher dosage and you can only get this from your doctor here’s some folic ‪#‎Facts‬

http://www.gofolic.org.uk/facts please copy & paste this info & share this help us raise awareness ‪#‎HugsForNoah‬ ‪#‎TheBoyWhoGrewABrain‬”

hugsfornoah on bbc1

How amazing is this that BBC1 have decided to re-broadcast the episode of DIYSOS featuring Noah Wall and his family – as Shelly has said, it is so important to raise awareness about the conditions which Noah has and also the importance of taking Folic Acid along with Vitamins B9 and B12 pre-conception and during pregnancy. This is something which needs as much awareness raised as possible and through Social Media and public speaking, this family are doing an amazing job of doing so 🙂

We are incredibly proud of Rob, Shelly, Noah and their family and all that they continue to achieve throughout their campaigning and their own health difficulties. They truly are an amazing family and an honour to call our friends.

Please share this post far and wide, tell your friends and loved ones, watch Noah’s DIYSOS episode on 31st March 2016 and help share the word on the importance of folic acid and vitamin B9 and B12!!!

Together we can support this amazing family in all that they do ❤

#Hugsfornoah 2015 Gala Dinner – We Need YOUR Business’s HELP!!

Hugs For Noah Logo

* WE NEED YOUR HELP *

* CHARITY EVENT *

Good morning all and Happy Sunday, how is everyone today?

Our friend is currently organising the third annual Gala Dinner for her son’s charity which will take place on Friday 30th October 2015 in Carlisle.

Each year we approach businesses in the hope they will help by donating small gifts for the gift bags which are handed out to each guest – this not only allows us to give a ‘thank you’ gift to everyone attending for their support but also helps to promote small businesses.

In the past we have had toiletry samples, candles, keyrings, jewellery, etc and we always encourage the businesses to supply business cards, etc with their details so it’s a great advertising tool too.

This year we are looking for 135 ladies gifts and 135 gents gifts… we are hoping to find some business to help – would YOUR business be able to help with either the ladies or gents gifts?

The details of this years event are “HERE” 🙂

Each year the gift bag contains a selection of items from small businesses and I always blog after the event to thank and promote those who have been involved… again it helps with promoting their business.

Here is the link to my blog review of the first gala dinner in 2013 which will give you an idea of what was involved, etc.

https://eljay1980.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/hugsfornoah-gala-dinner-on-24th-may-2013/

It would be great if you were able to help and get involved and if you can then I will do everything I can to support and promote your business.

If you think you may be able to help then please either inbox me through my Facebook page (Link Below) or email me at admin@cardsandcandlesforalloccasions.co.uk to discuss how your business would be able to help and support this amazing event for http://www.hugsfornoah.co.uk

#HugsForNoah Valentine Day Christening

As many of you will know from our blog posts, Facebook updates and dedicated sections on our website, we are huge supporters of #HugsForNoah.

Noah is a very special little boy who was born on 6th March 2012 with a condition called Spina Bifida, there were many complications throughout pregnancy and Noah has several medical conditions which a lot of adults would give in to, but he does’t complain and just keeps on going with his gorgeous smile. You can read Noah’s story on his website… www.hugsfornoah.co.uk

When we heard that Noah’s Christening was to be held on Valentine’s Day 2015, I knew that I wanted to create a special keepsake for Noah to remember this special day. It was an honour when Noah’s mummy asked us to handcraft keepsake personalised candles for each of Noah’s Godparents – we designed two tall pillar candles with Noah’s name, date of his Christening, the colour scheme to match this special occasion and then scaled this design down for the five smaller pillar candles which were then personalised with a special message from Noah.

We were invited to attend Noah’s Christening which was held at the beautiful Holme Cultram Abbey, a day filled with so many smiles and surprises with Noah and his family – it is always an honour to spend time with such a special family.

The biggest and best surprise of the day?? The day before Noah’s Christening he stood for the first time!! Needless to say the photograph which Rob and Shelly shared of this amazing moment brought many happy tears and smiles and Noah’s progress in the last few weeks has come on in leaps and bounds. Noah is an amazing little boy 🙂

January 2015 – Reasons To Be Cheerful

Happy New Year 2015

Happy New Year everyone, here’s raising a little glass to you all, hoping that 2015 will be a happy, healthy and prosperous year for you all and may bring you everything that you wish for.

Although we have been around over the holiday period, getting things sorted out, today is our first day back in the full swing of work… the first working Monday of the new year and I didn’t want to get out from under my duvet this morning but now I’m at work, I’m glad to be here working on lots of plans for new products, lists of what we need to do and lots more.

This years festive holidays brought lots of reasons for me to be cheerful, although Christmas day itself and Hogmanay/New Years Day were pretty uneventful… those were our rest days aka ‘paperwork’ days!!

east_kilbride_univ

1. My first reason to be cheerful is that on 27th December 2014, I went to Scotland to visit my Dad for four days!! I’m a proper Daddy’s girl and always miss him lots when I’m in Stoke on Trent and he’s in East Kilbride. It was lovely to have the chance to just relax, catch up and have a laugh and joke together.

East Kilbride

2. While we were in East Kilbride I celebrated my 34th birthday which was spent shopping, eating out and relaxing – one of the best birthdays I’ve had in a long time. Birthday shopping didn’t quite go as planned as I couldn’t find anything that I wanted to buy – even the craft shops let me down!! lol

Riverside Museum

3. During my visit to East Kilbride, we decided to visit the Riverside Museum in Glasgow… there are a lot of things I don’t agree with about this museum, such as the layout they have used to display the cars, etc (I mean, who in their right mind puts cars on shelves four stories high?!) but when I was little and my Dad used to ask me where I wanted to go I always said the Transport Museum in Glasgow, which was located at Kelvin Hall back in the 1980’s. The museum may not be in the same place, the displays may be different, the layout may have changed however the vehicles that I remember seeing as a child were the same and I was with my Dad… is there any better reason to be happy?

Miss You

4. I heard a song today which although upset me at first, also made me think of the good times with a very special person who is no longer with us. Alan and I went through a lot together and since passing away in November 2006 there have been a lot of times I have resented him for leaving me, but I know there were reasons that things happened the way that they did and I have so many happy memories, memories of times when Alan helped me through difficult times and times which I always smile just thinking about.

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We’ll get there

For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

18ixesmen8ntxjpg

5. It’s a new year and a year of big plans for Cards And Candles For All Occasions… we have lots of new products in the design stages, others being worked on which should be ready to unveil in the next couple of weeks and others which are currently at the sketch point. Lots of things to do which will hopefully bring lots of exciting new products and news for our business.

Hope that everyone has a wonderful year ahead!! 🙂

Love Laura xx
