Handcrafted Dreamcatcher for Someone Special

Very recently I had someone special to create a gift for and it really got me thinking… it had to be something suitable for posting to Australia but I also wanted it to be something with a personal touch, so I went looking for ideas.

I decided that a laser cut mdf dreamcatcher was perfect for a new baby’s room, particularly one with the quote “Never Let Go Of Your Dreams” with feathers, stars, moon and a cloud.

I ordered this dreamcatcher from our supplier and could not wait for it to arrive so that I could start working on it… I had already decided which colours of Dylusions paint I was going to use. The morning it arrived I was straight on with the first layer of paint.

The dreamcatcher outer circle was painted using Calypso Teal, the writing was painted alternately in After Midnight and Tangerine Dream before each of the star, feather, moon and cloud elements were given a coat of gesso before being finished with glitter Stickles.

Each of the elements of the dreamcatcher have been connected using blue and white twine to add to the free flowing effect that a lighter ribbon/twine gives.

A few people asked me who I was working on this gift for but I was very secretive about who the recipient would be, but now they have received it and vlogged the parcel they received (showing both the dreamcatcher AND the handmade card we made from Cards And Candles For All Occasions), I can now confirm that this was a very special gift for a very special little boy…

The beautiful baby boy being Archie, gorgeous son of the very talented Adele and Aaron Toomey aka Inkie Quill and Inkie Beard!!

Those of you who know me and/or follow my other blog (Eljay’s Creating Memories Journey) will know that I also love scrapbooking and following many wonderful YouTubers in the scrapbook community, so when Adele shared Archie’s gift on their daily vlog on Mr & Mrs Rad, together with a few crafty things I had sent to Adele, naming me and thanking me for being a longterm fan and subscriber, I have to admit that I did have a bit of a fan girl moment 😍😍😍 lol. I just *had* to screenshot the moment, so here you go… I doubt Adele realises that she made my day this morning!!

Here is the vlog post where you can find Adele sharing her happy mail… “Mr & Mrs RAD Ep #139 ~ You Can’t Bite Daddy’s Nose Archie!”.

I would love to hear your thoughts on my latest Dreamcatcher and if you are interested in seeing more of my work you can follow us on Facebook at Cards And Candles For All Occasions.

Thank you for reading.

Revival List – More Than A Vintage Fayre #Review

Saturday 7th September 2013 was the big day… the Revival List event at Kidsgrove Town Hall, our first event since June 🙂

The day didn’t start off too well as we both slept through the alarm clock and were woken up by a phone call fifteen minutes after we were due to leave home!! So it was a mad rush of sort the animals, have a shower, get dressed, load the car and set off… forty five minutes after being woken up and we arrived in Kidsgrove (including stopping for petrol and £1 coins for our float!) – not too bad!!

We got our stall set up and all of our Cards And Candles For All Occasions and Badger’s Woodcrafts stock out on display, including lots of new Christmas stock for 2013 almost an hour before the event was opened to the public which gave us time to relax a little and network with fellow stallholders.

The doors opened at 11am and got quite busy with visitors/customers pretty much straight away… lots of people browsing, buying and wanting to chat. There was a lovely atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome within the local community.

Throughout the day we received lots of interest and compliments of our handcrafted products, spoke to a couple of people who are organising Christmas events and are going to send us details, had lots of interest in our personalised keepsake cards and a few ladies have said they will be in touch via our website and we also made a few sales.

We met some lovely stallholders including an Avon representative, a lady who makes delicious cupcakes, a lady who handcrafts some lovely felt goodies and a lady who handcrafts beautiful owl themed family trees while her friend does some gorgeous handcut images and quotes. There were also a few vintage clothing stalls, vintage/pre-owned niknaks and books, local community stalls and a stand and display for Staffordshire SANDS.

All proceeds from todays stall fees and the raffle will be donated to Staffordshire SANDS which is the Kidsgrove Mayors Charity of the Year 2013. You can visit the charity’s website at www.StaffordshireSANDS.co.uk 🙂

All in all, we had a really good day and can’t wait for the Victorian Fayre at Kidsgrove Town Hall on 30th November 2013.

Thank you to the great organisers of this event for all of your hard work and for inviting us to join your fayre today!

Sunday 19th May 2013 – Ikon Bodyz in aid of SCBU

Ikon poster 19052013

Sunday 19th May 2013 was our first outdoor event of the 2013 summer season and what a day it was!! It was the day that all of the hard work by the Ikon Bodyz Modified Car Club events team came to fruition at Longton Rugby Club on Trentham Lakes, Stoke on Trent… a family fun day filled with stalls, show cars, inflatable fun and funfair rides, and much much more.

The day started off very tiredly as neither Gordon nor myself had any sleep on Saturday night, after a busy few weeks we were busy getting everything organised for the event and then simply just couldn’t sleep so needless to say, our drive to the venue included an all-important stop at the local MacDonald’s drive through for essential caffeine and a sneaky breakfast muffin 😉

We were on site with our stall fully set up ready for the venue opening at 10am and the weather was on our side… we had blue skies and sunshine all day, with only the occasional gust of wind (which is apparent in a couple of our stall photographs lol) but there were lots of people both working and playing and all in all it was a good day.

We had our stall at the event showcasing our selection of handcrafted, unique greetings cards, keepsake cards, candles, dreamcatchers and personalised keyrings as well as our very important range of Hugs For Noah candles – we had many many people who asked all about Noah’s story and gave us the opportunity to explain all about Noah’s health problems, his progress and his determination as well as re-inforcing the importance of Folic Acid during conception and pregnancy. There were many people who we spoke to who had small children but had never been advised by their health care professionals about the importance of taking Folic Acid and were very surprised when we spoke about this.

The local charity who we are committee members of were also at this event raising awareness and funds, this was Staffordshire SANDS, this is another cause which is very close to our hearts and we feel that raising awareness and funds for this important subject is something that everyone should encourage.

There were a few fellow businesses complaining about the turnout of visitors, lack of sales, etc and at one point we did agree that it was quiet BUT having been in business over three years and attending many craft fairs, family fun days and other events we have learned to accept that a lot of events can be very hit and miss, however the main thing we focus on is getting our business name into the public domain as well as raising awareness for Hugs For Noah and SANDS so no event is a disaster… each and every event is a learning and marketing process so we can’t really complain.

Admittedly we didn’t make a fortune yesterday but we did talk to many people about the charities we support and the reasons we do so, we sold a few of our charity candles and we met lots of lovely people – surely that’s what life is all about?

For all of those who complain about an event and/or organiser, I have one question for you… could you do a better job?

Thank you to Nicola and Kelly, Events Organisers at Ikon Bodyz Modified Car Club for all of the hard work which went into yesterdays event… so far the total raised for SCBU has exceeded £1,000 – a great achievement I’m sure you’ll agree!!!
