Sunday 19th May 2013 was our first outdoor event of the 2013 summer season and what a day it was!! It was the day that all of the hard work by the Ikon Bodyz Modified Car Club events team came to fruition at Longton Rugby Club on Trentham Lakes, Stoke on Trent… a family fun day filled with stalls, show cars, inflatable fun and funfair rides, and much much more.
The day started off very tiredly as neither Gordon nor myself had any sleep on Saturday night, after a busy few weeks we were busy getting everything organised for the event and then simply just couldn’t sleep so needless to say, our drive to the venue included an all-important stop at the local MacDonald’s drive through for essential caffeine and a sneaky breakfast muffin 😉
We were on site with our stall fully set up ready for the venue opening at 10am and the weather was on our side… we had blue skies and sunshine all day, with only the occasional gust of wind (which is apparent in a couple of our stall photographs lol) but there were lots of people both working and playing and all in all it was a good day.
We had our stall at the event showcasing our selection of handcrafted, unique greetings cards, keepsake cards, candles, dreamcatchers and personalised keyrings as well as our very important range of Hugs For Noah candles – we had many many people who asked all about Noah’s story and gave us the opportunity to explain all about Noah’s health problems, his progress and his determination as well as re-inforcing the importance of Folic Acid during conception and pregnancy. There were many people who we spoke to who had small children but had never been advised by their health care professionals about the importance of taking Folic Acid and were very surprised when we spoke about this.
The local charity who we are committee members of were also at this event raising awareness and funds, this was Staffordshire SANDS, this is another cause which is very close to our hearts and we feel that raising awareness and funds for this important subject is something that everyone should encourage.
There were a few fellow businesses complaining about the turnout of visitors, lack of sales, etc and at one point we did agree that it was quiet BUT having been in business over three years and attending many craft fairs, family fun days and other events we have learned to accept that a lot of events can be very hit and miss, however the main thing we focus on is getting our business name into the public domain as well as raising awareness for Hugs For Noah and SANDS so no event is a disaster… each and every event is a learning and marketing process so we can’t really complain.
Admittedly we didn’t make a fortune yesterday but we did talk to many people about the charities we support and the reasons we do so, we sold a few of our charity candles and we met lots of lovely people – surely that’s what life is all about?
For all of those who complain about an event and/or organiser, I have one question for you… could you do a better job?
Thank you to Nicola and Kelly, Events Organisers at Ikon Bodyz Modified Car Club for all of the hard work which went into yesterdays event… so far the total raised for SCBU has exceeded £1,000 – a great achievement I’m sure you’ll agree!!!
