Thursday 18th November 2010 saw Cards And Candles For All Occasions at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Crewe for their Christmas Market.
This is the first event like this which has been organised by the Ramada Encore so is a huge learning curve, though saying this it went very well in our opinions.
We were one of the first to arrive and as such had to wait while tables were laid out, though this did mean we were able to discuss our requirements with the organisers and arrange the best space for us. We set up our stall and everything was ready in plenty of time before the public began to arrive.
The Christmas Market was set in the main foyer area of the hotel with additional stalls in one of the conference rooms. The area was bright and airy, well lit and open… there were plenty of signs advising visitors where the stalls were located and also plenty of staff around to answer any questions or offer assistance where needed.
Our stall layout was smaller than normal, though I think we coped quite well.
From where we were situated we had quite a good view of the entire foyer area, including the entrance so we were able to see the overall layout and footfall of the event… it seemed that most of the hotel’s residents were looking round on their way to/from the restaurant and bar areas.
As this was a ‘Christmas Market’ as oppose to the Craft Fair type of events which we would normally attend, there was a high percentage of stalls selling mass-produced and franchised products but this is something we were aware of before we booked and this didn’t seem to affect our sales on the evening.
Other stalls at the event included homemade jams, chutneys and fruit juices using locally grown produce from Norton Priory’s walled garden, handmade fudge, cupcakes, beeswax candles and of course the lovely Lorraine from Baby Cake Gifts.
Franchise stalls included Party Lite, Usborne Books, Phoenix Trading and Oscars pet treats.
Despite a slow start to the evening, this event proved to be very successful for us. There was a steady flow of visitors browsing the Christmas market, lots of people enquiring and asking questions about our natural ecosoy candle range and personalisation options for our keepsake cards and we also made quite a few sales of our ‘friendship kits’, reindeer food, candles and natural candle holders.
This is an event which we would definitely like to attend in the future and hope that other stallholders felt that this event was as successful as ourselves.
And as they say, there is no rest for the wicked… today we are busy preparing for tomorrow’s Christmas Open Day at Northfield Farm, so if you’re in the area then we’d love to see you there!!
