Badger’s Woodcrafts – Bird Feeder and Perch

Badger’s Woodcrafts is currently working on new product prototypes to expand our range of natural, ecofriendly products made from sustainable timber, recycled timber and naturally fallen tree branches and logs.

As a part of this project we are currently working on garden animal feeders, homes and accessories.

The first product in our new range is a bird feeder/perch which has been made from 100% recycled timber and would look great in any garden enviroment… this can be hung from trees, attached to a fence (using the four screws provided) or placed in any location of your choice.

Bird feeder perch on Badger's Woodcrafts website

We are looking at charging around £12 plus P&P and this will be supplied with four screws for fitting to your chosen location.

This perch can be placed in many garden locations and is a natural ecofriendly resting place for your garden visitors and friends.

A fantastic week in Scotland!! April 2012

We have been very quiet over the last few months I know, but with good reason I promise.  We were busy preparing for our week in Scotland… a week spent with all of our family.  A week of sightseeing, family meals, days out with my little cousins and a family wedding.  It has been absolutely bliss!!

We drove from East Kilbride to Fort William on Monday 9th April 2012 for our much needed holiday and as you can see the views were fantastic, this is what the start of a holiday should be about. Lots of rest, relaxation and superb surroundings:

Our first evening was spent relaxing and taking in the views from our apartment at the beautiful Lochy Holiday Park in Fort William… the site and surroundings are stunning!

Our apartment was far beyond our expectations, the facilities are excellent – there was everything we could have wished for and more. We could have happily lived in the apartment permanently. The only ‘homely’ thing missing from the apartments was a washing machine but that is no problem as there is a very well facilitated laundry on site. It is perfect.

On our second day Gordon, dad and I went to Arisag, Camusdarach Beach and Mallaig – it is lovely here, so tranquil and quiet, the surroundings are stunning and it has lots of memories from childhood holidays for both dad and me.

On Wednesday we had a day trip to Oba, Connel Bridge and the Falls of Lora followed by a meal with all the family at the West End Hotel, Fort William. After dinner the lads all went ten pin bowling while the ladies and girls stayed at the hotel… a quiet but lovely evening.

Thursday 12th April 2012 was my aunts wedding but that’s for a separate blog post!!

Friday 13th April 2012, Gordon and I took my little cousins Callum and Nicola to Landmark Adventure Forest – we saw all kinds of weather on our way there… hail, snow, rain and lots of sunshine. Thankfully it was dry all day when we were there. The kids loved the waterslides, rollercoaster, high wire course and we all absolutely loved the Tree Top Trail and Bamboozleum. Bamboozleum is like a sciencey type exhibition with lots of interactive electrostatic and imagery features – such a giggle!!

Sadly, we had to leave Fort William on Saturday 14th April 2012 to drive down to East Kilbride – dad had gone home the day before so we stayed with im on the Saturday night to break up our journey. Stoke on Trent to Fort William is a long drive!!

Our last day in Scotland gave us plenty of photo opportunities at Corpach Canal Basin, Caol, Rannoch Moor and beyond…

And so saw the end of our holiday… it wasn’t until our week in the Fort William area that we realised just how much we would love to live in that area, away from the hustle and bustle, away from all the sad memories and not so good places from our past.

One day we may live our dream – we best start buying a lottery ticket!!

We hope you have enjoyed our holiday photos as much as we enjoyed our break!!

Now it’s back to work and back to reality :)

The Wedding Season Is Coming…

Well, first let us apologise for the lack of blog posts lately – it’s been a very busy time here at Cards And Candles For All Occasions as we have recently began displaying our products in a new local shop (more details coming soon) as well as the wonderful news that my Aunt and Uncle are coming home to Scotland from New Zealand for a holiday and are getting married in Fort William while they are home. Soooo excited for them!!

At the moment we are busy working on table decorations for their wedding, special keepsake cards from Dad and from us and also buttonholes for Dad and Gordon. It’s lots of things I haven’t done before but am really enjoying. The challenge is fab, I just hope everyone is happy with the end results.

The wedding is taking place on Thursday 12th April 2012 so we don’t have a lot of time to get everything finished and transported to Scotland for the big day.

Last night saw the completion of Dad and Gord’s button holes… I’m really happy with them and even made co-ordinating boxes to transport them in :)

Firstly, we have Gordon’s buttonhole which is Pride of Scotland tartan to match his kilt (his Christmas gift – perhaps a premonition that it would be needed?):

Then we have Dad’s buttonhole which is Black Watch Tartan to match his attire on the day:

We have a small gift for my Aunt, the bride-to-be which has a gift box in the same style as the men’s but with blue ribbon – as we know it’s good luck to have Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue… the gift inside is also blue ;)

So all in all, it’s ben a busy few weeks with lots more preparation still to come.

Very exciting but nerveracking too – what if they don’t like the finished decorations? What if I mess them up? Guess this is the time to think positively and focus on the fact that I wouldn’t be doing this if nobody thought I could!!

Hope you’re all having a fab sunshiney Saturday… enjoy your weekend!!

A Day of Reflections and Memories

Some of you may have noticed that our blog posts have been few and far between, this is for many reasons – we have been busy crafting orders and new ideas so we haven’t had a lot of time to sit down and write a new blog post, but also we have been going through a very difficult, emotional time as a family. Today is a day of reflection for us. A time to look at the past and the present, look over things which have happened and what has brought us to where we are today.

family

Five years ago today, on 23rd February 2007, my life changed forever – my beautiful Mum was taken away… taken from our lives, a chunk torn from our hearts, a huge part of our lives gone.

I know Mum is always around me in spirit, in memories and in my heart but there are so many times when I see or hear something or someone and would do anything to lift the phone to hear Mum’s voice.

Christine Thomson was so much more than just my Mum… she was my best friend, soulmate, the one I always asked for advice and shared my ‘secrets’ with, the woman I looked up to. Mum was the person who always understood me – she could read me like a book ♥

I lived with my Mum and Dad until I was almost 23 years old, and for three years Mum and I also worked together… we shared an office, we shared a house, we shared our lives. We would shop together, laugh together, watch movies together and socialise together. Mum was my best friend.

When I was getting married in 2004, Mum travelled from East Kilbride to Stoke on Trent to help me choose my wedding dress and helped me with so many other decisions for our big day, including making our own wedding invitations and guest favours and much more.

We spoke on the telephone every day, with many emails in between the calls, we would often text each other with random little comments or jokes, or just to simply say “I Love You” – we shared everything.

achieve the impossible

They say that pain eases with time… each day which passes, achievement or failure, it breaks my heart that Mum is not here beside me. I can’t just lift the phone to hear her voice, or visit our family home to see Mum smile. The heartache never eases.

When Mum was in hospital she told Dad something which breaks my heart, she said “what hurts me most is that I’ll never see my grandchildren” – two years after Mum passed away we had our third miscarriage and I truly believe that Mum is looking after our Angel babies in Heaven ♥ Mum and Dad had been through the heartache of miscarriages before my birth and she understood my questions, fears and the emotions I was going through – she may not have had the desperately sought after answers, but she was there to give her support and those all important Mum hugs!!

Everything I do is done with my Mum in mind and it was through all of Mum’s love and encouragement that we have been able to build our business and cope with the rough and the smooth, our business is moving forward and I sincerely hope my darling Mum is proud of us.

Without the love, support and encouragement from Mum and Dad I would not be where I am today, I would not be the person I am now and I most definitely would not be self employed and running our own growing business. Over the years my parents have taught me that nothing is beyond reach – as long as we are willing to commit our time, effort and money into our plans then we can achieve our dreams.

My dreams are now becoming a reality and I owe it all to my Mum and Dad.

My Mum is always around me in spirit and I know she always will be, this knowledge is what helps me through the really difficult times and remember that I cannot give up – Mum would never give up!!

I'm Possible

I love you Mum… I may have had my moments as a difficult teenager where I made things hard for you but I have always loved you and I always will. You are always in my heart and in my thoughts. You are always with us.

You can read Mum’s story ‘HERE’.

Take care Mum… sending lots of love and hugs to you in Heaven.

Lots of love, your devoted daughter and your wonderful son-in-law.

January Round Up 2012

Good evening to all of our lovely friends, followers and customers

As you may have noticed, blog updates have been few and far between for the last little while… with one thing and another things at Cards And Candles For All Occasions and Badger’s Woodcrafts have been pretty manic since Christmas.

Healthwise, both Gordon and myself have had a few ups and downs, fighting chest infections, dealing with Gord’s diabetes and battling through other things too… we’re now on the road to being well again and back to business as usual :)

In the last few weeks we’ve had a meeting with the team of judges for Staffordshire’s Local Business Accelerator and also a potential new stockist, orders trickling in and new ideas being discussed for the year ahead.

At the Staffordshire Local Business Accelerator we were in the shortlist of five companies who met with the judges to discuss our business, future plans, what we’re looking for, etc with the potential of being taken through to the next round where there is the possibility of winning twelve weeks mentoring and twelve months of advertising. Unfortunately, we did not progress any further than being shortlisted to this stage however after discussing our business background, plans for the future, ideas and options we now have many more avenues to explore and hopefully will soon be able to share some of our ideas with you.

Last week we met with a local lady who is leaving her current employment to pursue her dream of opening her own shop which will include a Farm Shop for local produce, a convenience store and a section dedicated to local crafts available for sale… everything is still in the planning stages at the moment but we are hopeful that this will be something which we will be able to go ahead with soon and have our products available to a wider market. We shall keep you posted!!

We have also just found out that our family who are visiting from New Zealand in April (they will be staying in Scotland as most of my family live up there) are getting married in Fort William while they are over… my aunt and uncle have been together years so the announcement that they are getting married was a huge surprise for everyone, but fantastic news. We are taking this opportunity to have a weeks holiday in a holiday park in Fort William, spending time with our family and relaxing. We are both really looking forward to this as our last holiday was in 2007!!

Today finally sees the end of the dreaded Self Assessment Tax Return paperwork… lots of to-ing and fro-ing, conflicting information, confusion and purchasing of new software has meant that we have spent the last week or so surrounded by mountains of paperwork, getting more confused by the minute and thinking that we would never see the end of it but all that’s left to do is double check all the figures then press SUBMIT and cross our fingers. Accountancy never was my strong point.

We are in the middle of a greetings card order from a fellow crafter which we hope to complete this week, as well as working on Valentines cards, new stock and updating our websites so still just as busy but loving every minute of it.

Don’t forget that you can follow Badger’s Woodcrafts and Cards And Candles For All Occasions on Facebook to keep up with all our news and ideas.

Thank you for all of your continued support… we will be back soon with some new stock and news for you all, in the meantime remember if there is anything specific you are looking for then we are only an email away!!

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Merry Christmas

It’s here!!  It’s Christmas Eve!!!

One more sleep to go!!

Remember the reason for the season and enjoy the festivities with your loved ones!!

1. O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.

2. O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.
For Christ is born of Mary
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep the Angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.

3. How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given;
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His Heaven.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still,
The dear Christ enters in.

4. Where children pure and happy
Pray to the blessed Child,
Where misery cries out to Thee,
Son of the Mother mild;1
Where Charity stands watching
And Faith holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
And Christmas comes once more.

5. O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray!
Cast out our sin and enter in,
Be born in us to-day.
We hear the Christmas angels,
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel!

What A Fab Day!! Sunday 4th December 2011

ccse 2010

The day arrived… the Contemporary Craft Shopping Experience 2011.

Sunday 4th December 2011 saw an early start for Gordon and I, we had to leave home around 5am… load the car, get petrol then drive to Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, thankfully the weather this year was better than last year :)

We arrived to be greeted by the lovely Claire who is the brains and crafty hands of Lady Luck Jewellery and we set to work setting up our stall for what we hoped to be another great day.

CCSE1
CCSE2
CCSE3

We were set up, had breakfast from the lovely onsite cafe and were ready for the opening of the event at 10am. We had already spoken to stallholders we had met at this event in 2010 and everyone was very excited for the day ahead… this is a great event to be a part of.

Nobody was disappointed. Sunday 4th December 2011 at Warwickshire Exhibition Centre was a great day… lots of lovely customers, friendly stallholders, catching up with fellow crafters who have become friends and a lovely atmosphere. Fantastic.

What was our most popular productof the day? There were two!!

Our Snowman Soup was incredibly popular with visitors of all ages… a treat for themselves, a stocking filler for friends and family or a little extra gift for those unexpected Christmas visitors. We almost sold out of these!!

Badger’s Woodcrafts Peg Looms were also really popular – to the extent that by the end of the day we only had ONE left… this is quite possibly the most successful day Gordon has had with his woodcrafts since it was launched. Excellent :)

Throughout the day, the weather was kind to visitors, although it was cold and a little breezy there was no snow or fog like last year, even the rain held off until near the end of the event – just in time for packing up and trying to fit all the boxes back into the car. Ah well, can’t complain as it was a great day.

All in all, we had a lovely day… met quite a few people from Laura’s home area (Glasgow) who were more than eager to have a chat about the Glasgow area, how it used to be and what’s changed. We are always amazed by how many people from the Glasgow area we meet at events ‘down south’ but we never tire of talking to these lovely people.

Will be be attending the Contemporary Craft Shopping Experience in 2012? Without a doubt, this is one of our best events of the year and we would be delighted to support Claire again in the future!!

We’ll be updating you with our other Christmas events soon… just as soon as I find the photographs ;)

Lots of love and hugs to you all, from
